My first business was graphic design. Logos, mostly — for friends, for small businesses that couldn't afford an agency, for people who just needed something that looked like they meant it. I made logos that became the face of thriving businesses. Some of them are probably still out there right now, on a storefront window or a business card in somebody's wallet, and the person carrying it has no idea I'm sitting here thinking about it.
I didn't call that greatness at the time. I called it work. A side hustle. A thing I was good at that helped somebody else look legit.
It took me years to understand that it was greatness the whole time. Just not the loud kind.
Here's the thing nobody tells you when you're starting out: you think greatness is going to look like a launch. A stage. A headline. Something with an audience. And sometimes it does look like that — I'm not going to pretend it never does. But most of it doesn't. Most of it looks like a logo nobody remembers you made, or a decision you made quietly in a room where nobody clapped.
Creating greatness simply means to wake up every day and choose the conscious effort to be the best version of yourself. That's the whole definition. I know it sounds almost too simple for something we spend our whole lives chasing. But read it again — conscious effort. Not a mood. Not a feeling that shows up when the lighting's right. A choice you make on the regular Tuesdays too.
And here's the part that took me even longer to understand: that choice is going to look completely different depending on who's making it.
This GREATNESS is Personal.
I mean that literally. It's not one thing to be boxed in. Greatness may look different for everyone, because it is personal. Yours is not going to look like mine, and mine was never going to look like anybody else's either. So when I say that it's the greatness for me, I mean it! It is in me, it surrounds me, it is for me.
Let me show you what I mean with something small. I set goals the same way every time — I personally set a big goal, then I break that goal down into smaller goals or steps. I know how my brain processes information and what steps I need to take to ensure that I succeed for myself daily. I did the work to set myself up for success. That system works because it's built for how my brain works, not because it's the correct system. Somebody else could try to copy it step for step and it would fall apart on them by Thursday, because their brain doesn't move the way mine does. That's not a flaw in the system. That's just what personal means.
So I want to ask you something, and I actually want you to sit with it instead of scrolling past it.
What did greatness look like for you this week? Not the version you'd post about. The real one. Maybe it was a launch. Maybe it was saying no to something you would've said yes to a year ago. Maybe it was getting the kids out the door and still showing up for yourself for twenty quiet minutes before anybody needed anything from you. Maybe, honestly, it was drinking water and minding your business.
All of that counts. I need you to actually believe that, not just nod at it.
Because here's what happens when you keep measuring your greatness against somebody else's version of it — you start to think you're behind. You're not behind. You're just building something that was never supposed to look like theirs.
You are dope. Now it's time to start acting like it.
